I love that L.A. is a quick flight from San Francisco. As many times as I’ve been to L.A. I’m never tired of it. We seem to always find new places to see, people to meet, and food to eat. This trip was a week long getaway to cure cabin fever and traveling-with-an-infant nerves. Success. See a few photos I manage to NOT SHARE on Instagram. They’ve been sitting on my desk way too long!
Places
Come Away with Me: Calistoga
I keep pushing it with “one more trip” before I go into labor! I couldn’t imagine not celebrating our 6th year anniversary (when we started dating) and Valentine’s, especially when there are options like Calistoga, an area of Napa, known for its natural springs and mud baths. Unfortunately, we found out that it’s not advised for pregnant women to participate. I decided to still keep with our plans and at least get away for the weekend to explore the town. I know what you’re thinking, what else is there to do when you’re in wine country but drink?!
Ai Weiwei Exhibit at Alcatraz Isaland
Currently, Alcatraz Island tickets will get you free entrance to its Large: Ai Wei Wei art exhibit. I had never been to Alcatraz Island, also known as The Rock (not the actor), which made this even more of an interesting day excursion for us. Prior to this day, I had read literature my friend left on my desk about the island and its history of escapes to get myself psyched up.
The Honeymooners, Africa II
In part II, I’m sharing more safari honeymoon photos from my desk today. Also, please help me pick 3 of your favorite photos for #MiniMilanComingSoon’s nursery!! It’s only fitting that her nursery has influences from where she was conceived! 😉
10 Reasons You’ll Fall in Love with Nola
The #LastDestinationof2014 for us was a quick hop over to New Orleans after Christmas. I had been before as a very young child, but didn’t recall much, only remembering that I wanted a voodoo doll at a store in the French Quarter. Voodoo dolls (by the way what’s that all about?) wasn’t enough for me. I needed to find out more. New Orleans, what are you about?
Holiday at The Houmas House
On my desk today we take a blast to the past to The Houmas House Plantation and Gardens near New Orleans. Fun fact: One of the most unique original items in the home is a solid silver statue of Abraham Lincoln. If melted, the statue would yield in dollars…
Home for the Holidays
If it were up to me, I’d rewrite Bing Crosby’s song, White Christmas. The chorus would instead sing, “I’m dreaming of a black and white Christmas…” While I’m at it, I’d tweak the classic Christmas story, ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas to make it fitting for our first holiday in San Francisco. Take a tour of our home here!
Postcards from St. Barths
November 18, 2014
Dear friends,
We’re loving every minute we get to spend here in St. Barths for the second part of our Babymoon! Wishing you were here. I now see what all the fuss is about. From the gorgeous beaches, there are so many, to the charming town, we’re in love. Please do try to come see for yourself soon! I couldn’t pick out my favorite postcard to send, so here are a bunch!
DIY Holiday Wreaths with Grace!
If I can imagine my ideal transition to suburbia / mom / Pinterest / crafting life, this would be it! I pulled my sister, who was in town from Austin, to spend our Saturday doing a bit of DIY. My talented friend Grace Kim hosted this holiday get together in her gorgeous, chic, and new San Francisco place (take a tour here too). As if this invite couldn’t have been better, while we crafted, champagne was passed around and her dream boat boyfriend (Grace’s word I just learned to describe awesome significant others) made Shashuka for us to snack on! See how our first time wreaths turned out….
